Care: Fall: In late fall, after the Black-eyed Susan flowers have faded and the foliage starts to die back, trim the plants back. Cut them down to a few inches above the ground. This helps tidy up the garden and encourages new growth in the spring.

Coneflower

Botanical Name: Echinacea Purpurea

Care: Fall, or Spring: Pruning purple coneflower is helpful, but not imperative. You can leave the plants standing throughout the winter months to feed the birds, and shearing them back in the spring will result in bushier plants that bloom longer into the season.
